Opening up the Building
As a church, we welcome the news that from Saturday July 4 places of worship will be able to reopen for services for a limited and managed number of people while observing social distancing.
This is particularly significant news for those planning weddings and those who until recently have been unable to hold funerals for loved-ones in church buildings.
That said, we have already been planning and thinking about this time, and we are in no rush to get back into the building. It will not be possible to return to the way things were before the pandemic (which is ongoing). We need to take our time, and take great care, in our decision-making. When we do reopen, it is likely that our Sunday gatherings will look and feel very different to our experience prior to the pandemic.
We also want to ensure we continue to place our love for God, our love for ourselves, and our love for each other at the heart of all our decisions - and that may mean that we delay reopening for Sunday worship until it is safe and possible for more of our church family to gather together.
Our care for our congregation, our church family, and our community is, as it always has been, our priority.
Chris and the elders will work together in the coming weeks to determine a plan for moving forward and we are planning on sending out a survey/questionnaire so that you can feed into that plan. When we are able, we will share this plan with everyone.
For now, we will continue with our online gatherings which include our Sunday services and children's groups, youth groups, prayers meetings and online Alpha. Even once the church building is reopened on a Sunday morning we hope it will be possible for at least some of this online activity to continue. This will be a central part of our thinking and reflecting.
At this stage, the church building will also continue to be open for private prayer on a Monday 6:30pm - 8pm and Wednesday's 10am-12noon and 2pm-4pm.
We appreciate your support, patience and your prayers at this time.
From Chris & the Elders
